HISTORY |
|
Thrybergh Comprehensive School was built in the mid 1950's and was a much needed addition in the area. Mr. Winch an ex Sergeant was the first Headmaster and came from nearby Wath Comprehensive. The School came at a time when the children who were born in the birth rate explosion during the years following the second world war [ the "Baby Boomers "as we were later termed ] were approaching the age of eleven, the age for commencing a secondary School. With the local Schools in the area busting at the seams with pupils Thrybergh Comp. was a necessity. Catering for the Children of Thrybergh, Dalton, and Ravenfield the School since those earlier years as had a great level of achievement in the area. Gradually expanding its facilities the School is also now well known for its sporting amenities.
The scheme is funded by the Aim Higher/P4P, which is a programme committing over £190m to increase the number of young people from more diverse backgrounds who apply for and enter higher education. This year [2003] Steve took part in arranging for pupils of Thrybergh to attend Sheffield Hallam University. the visit was a huge success for the kids and organizer's, Kate Brown, from the University’s Student Services Centre is quoted as saying “They were a fantastic bunch of kids"
