WILLIAM BIRCH

William is recorded as starting work at Silverwood age 46 in September 1925, he had previously worked at Roundwood Colliery. At this time he was living at 18 Kelvin St Dalton. He only broke away from Mining with the onset of World War one in which like many miners he served his Country.

Upon his retirement William received the certificate below from the National Coalboard which thanks him for a staggering 51 years service.
