THE STUART TOMLINS COLLECTION pg. 2 THE WINDERS A Presentation by Stuart |
|
In the early 1990's when Silverwood and many more mines were listed for closure Stuart Tomlin of the Shropshire Mining Trust and Hobbyist Mining Historian realised the importance of photographing these mines which were doomed to disappear. So he ventured forth with his camera loaded and captured some of the last images of the majority of the mines. The pictures of Silverwood were taken in the last few weeks of underground activity. The shafts were being stripped when Stuart was there ready for infill to take place. He actually gained entry of the site and produced some marvelous images of the winding gears, complete with the operators, and also captured a shot of one of the mining industries oldest safety features, canaries used at Silverwood. My thanks on behalf of everyone are extended to Stuart for sharing his historic photos here on the Silverwood site.
