Hey, I was just wondering if you could tell me the last train that ever went to Silverwood Pit. My mate says it was around 93/94 but I am convinced its sometimes between 98/00.

As can be seen from the photo by George Johnson the trains did indeed run long after the demolition work had been completed. George writes "that picture was taken summer of 96., just before some firm moved in with many huts and machinery and moving one very large pile of waste dirt to another pile,. this must have gone on for several years
The taking away of reclaimed coal by train had to be a more viable proposition than using road haulage, other than cost, can you imagine the outcry from people in the surround villages if a constant flow of trucks had been used.

Worksplate "The English Electric Company Ltd. London. No 2388 1958 Works Stafford Preston Rugby. Bradford. Liverpool." Works number and date stamped into raised pads either side of 'EE' roundel. Small threaded hole each side between pad and roundel and outline of oval shaped covering plate/badge present. Originates from 3' gauge locomotive supplied to the National Coal Board and used at Silverwood Colliery. Plate is ex loco, rectangular cast brass, majority of chrome plate present. 10" x 4½" N/s
