Situated on Doncaster Road in Dalton the progressive Club was the main meeting place for locals prior to the Miners Welfare Club

Dalton Progressive Club Jazz Band

The band above has a great little story as to why it was formed, apparently there was a man in Dalton with no legs so the band was formed to raise money to buy him a wheelchair. The fund raising was successful and the man got his wheelchair. The photo itself is quite amazing in the variety of hats worn, there's even the old Australian slouch hat [ third from right back row ] which could be from the first world war or even the Boer war. The little drum [ forth from right front row has written upon it "On the Shelf " Many thanks to Danny Cassidy for the photo and information.
